Fire Pink is a delicate yet vibrant wildflower that does best in partial shade. Ideal for the semi-shaded rock garden Silene virginica is native to the woodlands and rocky slopes of the Eastern U.S. It prefers a dry soil in light to medium shade, and will tolerate more sun in a cooler climate. The bright red and pink flowers attract hummingbirds and can bloom for a month or longer in spring and early summer. Fire Pink has a long bloom-time, but it is a short-lived perennial. Because individual plants live for only three or so years, we recommended allowing it to self-seed, for a steady rotation of plants. It will self-seed successfully on open soil.
