Rosa palustris is an upright deciduous shrub with arching branches. Fairly adaptable, it is best grown in moist acidic soils in full sun, but will grow in light shade and medium soils as well. Useful as a rain garden member, Swamp Rose tolerates seasonal flooding, but will not grow in constant standing water. Plant it along a shoreline, or in a naturalized drainage area. Spreads slowly by suckers.
