Canada Anemone (Anemone canadensis) provides an excellent groundcover for medium to moist soils, with attractive foliage and refreshing bright white flowers rising above the foliage at a height of 18”. Plants will spread rapidly by underground rhizomes – install them one foot on-center for a solid carpet of blooming groundcover in one or two seasons. With adequate moisture the foliage will look great all season long.

Make a careful consideration when siting this species as it can be an agressive spreader. It is an excellent choice for a sunny moist area where there is space to fill, or perhaps a hard-to-mow damp area. Canada anemone intermingles beautifully with larger native wildflowers and sedges that have either fibrous or taproots. Mingled with Fox Sedge it creates an attractive surrounding for large plants such as Blue False Indigo, Ironweed, Joe Pye Weed and others. However, the tendency to spread quickly will usually overwhelm smaller plants. Spread can be mitigated with landscape barriers such as sidewalks or garden walls, or a mulched path that employs a weed barrier.

Canada anemone attracts early season pollinators. The foliage is unpalatable to deer and other browsing mammals.</p>
