Sullivant's Milkweed  (Asclepias sullivantii), also known as Prairie Milkweed, is very similar to Common Milkweed at first glance. However, Sullivant's Milkweed is less aggressive, has smooth succulent-like leaves, and the flowers are typically a more uniform pink.

Listed as a threatened species in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan, this gorgeous prairie plant makes a fine addition to any sunny perennial garden with medium soil. A superior candidate for the butterfly garden, Sullivant's is one the best milkweeds for attracting butterflies. Hummingbirds and a variety of other pollinators will also take great interest. The structural shape and bold texture of this milkweed help it stand out in a border. It does just as well as a member of a naturalized planting with other prairie species such as Wild Quinine, Meadow Blazingstar and Culver's Root.

Sullivant's Milkweed is a host plant for the Monarch butterfly, Queen butterfly, and the Milkweed Tussock Moth.
