Create a dramatic effect in your shade garden with this robust fern. The mature form is a large vase-shaped plant with beautifully textured fronds. Excellent for naturalizing, it is a good option for stabilizing soils along shaded stream banks and ravines. Ostrich Fern can be aggressive, spreading by rhizomes to form dense colonies in optimal conditions. The emerging fiddlehead shoots are considered a delicacy, when cooked. While many ferns prefer acid to neutral soils, Ostrich Fern is tolerant of a wide range of soil pH’s. It is both, deer and rabbit resistant.
