Native Ferns

Ferns can serve as the backbone of a shade garden by creating a setting for a variety of flowers. Often rhizomatous, they are good ground cover choice. In woodlands, native ferns are early colonizers in areas overbrowsed by deer. Unlike flowers ferns do not reproduce by seed, instead they reproduce from spores which are typically on the underside or edges of the frond.
