Lady Fern (Athyrium filix-femina) is widely adaptable and fast growing classic beauty. Creeping by rootstocks, it is perfect for planting on wooded slopes to help stabilize the soil and prevent erosion. Plant in masses by itself, or mix with other woodland wildflowers and sedges. Best grown in rich, medium moisture, it does tolerate drier soils than many other ferns. Shelter from wind to protect fronds from breaking. Divide clumps in spring every few years to reposition crowns at the soil level.
