Native Ferns

Ferns can serve as the backbone of a shade garden by creating a setting for a variety of flowers. Often rhizomatous, they are good ground cover choice. In woodlands, ferns are early colonizers in areas overbrowsed by deer. Unlike flowers ferns do not reproduce by seed. Instead, they reproduce from spores found most often on the underside or edges of the frond.
