Most sedges grow in moist soils and woodlands, but this is one of the few that grows in the prairie. It greens up early in spring before the warm season grasses begin to grow. The coppery-brown seedheads appear in June and July. Thrives in medium dry to medium moist soils. Hardy to Zone 4.
