Jennifer Baker, Senior Consultant & Landscape Designer

Welcome to Prairie Nursery! As Prairie Nursery’s Senior Ecologist and Designer for the last 12 years, I have had the good fortune to consult with clients on the design of their personal or corporate landscapes, helping to achieve their native landscaping goals.

Using Mother Nature as my role model, my design philosophy involves pulling elements from native communities to match the soil, moisture and light levels specific to your planting area. Creating a perfect match with the very best that nature has to offer results in a landscape that thrives with little input from you.

My strong foundation in Wildlife Ecology combined with my current interests in endurance horse riding, trail running and bird watching allow me to interact daily with native ecosystems, which is a continual source of inspiration for my landscape designs.

Background

For the last 12 years, Jennifer Baker has combined her passion for the outdoors, with her graduate studies to become the senior design consultant for Prairie Nursery. She began her career when she earned a Masters of Science degree in Wildlife Ecology from UW Madison.

Jennifer is a contributing writer to the bird gardening column within the bi-monthly published Bird Watcher’s Digest. Inspired by her graduate work, Jennifer designs custom landscapes. She incorporates plant medleys reminiscent of native ecosystems, with site-specific characteristics to create unique natural landscapes for both private and corporate clients.
