How does the Prairie Nursery stratify its seed?

Dry, Cold stratified- Stored in a cool, dry, place for 2-6 months.

What is wet stratification?

Increases the germination rate of many flower seeds by mimicking cold, damp, winter conditions.

The Wet Stratification Process

  • Seeds are mixed with 2-3 times their volume of damp (not wet) sawdust or sand.
  • Most seeds: Refrigerator storage for 4-8 weeks prior to planting.
  • Legumes: Store seeds in a refrigerator for 10-15 days.
  • White False Indigo and Cream False Indigo: Legumes that need 2 months of wet stratification.
