How long can plants be stored before they need to be planted?

Most plants may be stored for 1-2 weeks.

How should plants be stored if they can't be planted immediately?

  • Keep plants at a constant temperature between 34 and 38 degrees F, preferably in a refrigerator.
  • Plants should be covered with damp, not wet, peat moss.
  • Do not allow the plants to dry out.
  • Keep plants stored in a shady place while you are planting.
  • Never expose plants to direct sunlight.

How long can seeds be stored before planting?

No longer than one year. Seed viability decreases with age.

How should seeds be stored if they can't be planted immediately?

  • Package on a low humidity day (during fall or winter).
  • Double-bag in plastic.
  • Store in a cool, dry, rodent-proof container...preferably in the refrigerator.
