When is the best time to plant the "No Mow" mix?

The best time is in fall between Late August and Late September. This allows the seeds to germinate and establish a root system which helps to prevent weed growth the following spring.

When planting on erosion-prone sites and steep slopes, seed "No Mow" with Annual Rye no later than September 15th, to ensure sufficient growth of the nurse crop to hold the soil. On steep slopes use mulch and erosion control fabric to keep the soil from eroding.

Seeding in April through mid-May is a good second choice But:

  • Frequent watering will probably be necessary.
  • Weed densities will be much higher.
  • Mowing will be required to control weeds.
